The Government of Canada has officially launched the FRESH (Funding Research for Evidence in School Food and Health) Team Grant, a $12.6 million investment designed to strengthen the National School Food Program through robust research and data.

Strategic Investment in Child Health

Announced by the Honourable Anna Gainey and the Honourable Marjorie Michel, this funding supports up to 14 research grants. The goal is to provide decision-makers with the insights needed to deliver nutritious food in a way that supports long-term well-being and academic success.

Funding Allocation:

  • Employment and Social Development Canada: $9,000,000
  • Public Health Agency of Canada: $2,700,000
  • Canadian Institutes of Health Research: $900,000

Economic and Social Impact

The National School Food Program currently helps approximately 400,000 children annually. Research highlights that for every dollar invested, the program returns nearly $2 in social and economic benefits, confirming it as a high-value investment for Canadian families.
