Canada Child Benefit Increase 2026: New CRA Maximum Payment Rates

Official July 2026 Indexation, New Payment Amounts, and Eligibility Thresholds

Eligible Canadian families will receive an automatic boost to their monthly tax-free government support starting next month. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has finalized the indexation adjustment for the upcoming benefit year, directly impacting the Canada Child Benefit (CCB) and the Child Disability Benefit (CDB).

This increase helps parents keep pace with inflation and the rising cost of living across Canadian provinces. Since 2018, the CRA has mathematically adjusted these income-tested thresholds annually using the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

2026 CRA Indexation Rates vs. Previous Years

For the July 1, 2026 benefit year, the CRA has set the inflation indexation rate at 2.0%. This represents a lower year-over-year percentage hike compared to the 2.7% increase implemented during the July 2025 benefit period.

Canada Child Benefit (CCB) Payment Comparison (2025 vs. 2026)

Age of Child 2025 Maximum Annual Benefit 2026 Maximum Annual Benefit Annual Increase New Estimated Monthly Maximum
Children Under Age 6 $7,997 $8,157 +$160 ~$679.75 / month
Children Aged 6 to 17 $6,748 $6,883 +$135 ~$573.58 / month

Child Disability Benefit (CDB) Increase 2026

The Child Disability Benefit—a tax-free monthly supplement paid to families caring for a child under the age of 18 who has a severe and prolonged impairment in physical or mental functions—is also rising by the baseline 2.0% indexing rate.

  • 2025 Maximum Annual CDB: $3,411
  • 2026 Maximum Annual CDB: $3,480
  • Total Year-Over-Year Increase: +$69 per eligible child

Key Rules for CCB Calculation and Delivery

  • Tax-Free Status: All funds distributed under the CCB and CDB programs remain completely tax-free and do not need to be reported as income on your annual Canadian tax return.
  • Income-Tested Scale: The calculations above reflect the maximum potential base benefits. The actual net amount distributed to a household depends closely on Adjusted Family Net Income (AFNI) reported on the previous year’s tax filing.
  • Effective Date: The new payment cycle begins on July 1, 2026, and runs through June 30, 2027.
